April, Austin, and Tye Marsh

... couldn't be any cuter if they tried!

April and I were Alpha Gams together at UNA, where she showed me the ropes during my first year. She even hooked my up with my first date to an Alpha Gam date party. Haha! That was an interesting night...

I really enjoyed catching up with her and Austin and playing with sweet little Tye, who ended up with his momma's eyes. Lucky kid!

Thanks again, Joe, for being such a lovely assistant! ;)

Miss Lacey Smith: Senior 2008

This is exactly the kind of shoot I'm wanting to do more often! I love allowing girls to get all dolled up and express themselves creatively as a model in a "High Fashion" studio setting! It's SO much fun!!! My stylist, Alisha, did a fabulous job on her hair and make-up!

Lacey is an aspiring photographer herself and definitely knows how to work both ends of the camera! :) Next year she'll be attending the University of Montevallo to pursue her career as a photographer. Congratulations Lacey!

Stephanie and Jason

I so enjoyed getting to know this sweet couple! It was freezing that day so we enjoyed conversation over hot chocolate between locations. Getting to know my clients is my favorite part of the job! Thank you Joe for being such a great assistant! I'm spoiled rotten now:)

Highlighting: "Bloodline" by Kristen Ashburn

I get so much inspiration by looking through the eyes of other photographers. When I look at Kristin's work I'm reminded that the best photojournalistic photography is the result of time and patience. Time spent getting to know your subject and relating to them is the only way to gain access to intimate times and circumstances. Her work is seems so refreshingly genuine, in that some of it may have been staged but it doesn't appear to be so. Just by looking into their eyes, you can see straight to the soul of these peope. I see so many images where there seems to be a total disconnect between the photographer and the subject resulting from the lack of time spent in building a relationship. I asked Eugene Richards, another famous photographer, last year at the Festival of the Photograph, how he was able to capture such intimate times and virtually impenetrable boundaries; he simply answered, "Time." So time, patience, and a genuine interest in the lives of others are, in my opinion, the key to being a great photographer... so why did I decide to be a photographer again??? ;)
